The Buzz16 growth story continues: New appointment and three new heads of department roles created by leading sports programming specialists
Buzz 16, the award-winning production company and authentic sports based storytelling specialists, has upped three of their executives into newly created Head of Content, Head of Production and Head of Creative and Post-Production roles and brought in Mark Mountain, from IMG, to the new position of Finance Director.
Mountain, former Finance Director of IMG, has already started in his new role and reports in to Scott Melvin (CEO & Co-Founder) and Duncan East (Managing Director). Mountain also previously held the position of Finance Director at Endeavor’s Sports Streaming and Production/Studio business, building out the streaming business from UK inception to a global multi-million dollar outfit.
Buzz 16’s rapid growth over its six year history has seen the company expand to a staff of 54 and recently move into larger, high spec offices which include six editing suites. It has also seen significant growth in its production slate which includes award-winning documentary, Micah Richards: Tackling Racism, critically acclaimed docu-series Class of ’92: Full Time, round table discussion show Playing with Pride hosted by Clare Balding for BT Sports and the hugely popular, award-winning YouTube series The Overlap, fronted by Gary Neville which has recently been commissioned to a four-part series, currently being filmed for Sky Max – The Overlap on Tour – as well as live sports coverage including British Basketball for Sky Sports and the Women’s Rugby 15s for BT Sport.
Internal promotions see three senior execs upped in order to accommodate the company’s further growth strategy.
Tom Robinson has been promoted to Head of Content. Joining Buzz 16 soon after it was launched having spent eight years at Sky Sports, where he played an important part in premier league production, Robinson has developed some of Buzz 16’s most iconic programmes with Scott Melvin, including Class of 92 Full Time and Gary Neville’s Soccerbox as well as overseeing production on the multi-award winning YouTube Channel, The Overlap, which has recently received a Sports Journalism Award and a Broadcast Sport Award for Best YouTube Channel.
Carina Filiali becomes Head of Production. Having been with the company for one and a half years and with a background in live and non-live sports content, including European Tour Productions and Volleyball Nations League, Saudi Cup Horse Racing, Tennis (ITTF’s World Tour and World Championships), and Swimming (ISL 2019), Carina will be furthering Buzz 16’s already expanding factual entertainment portfolio.
Dan Self is now Head of Creative and Post-Production having joined Buzz 16 in 2022 after 22 years with Sky Sports where he was responsible for the creative output across all Premier League coverage and directing multi-camera shoots. Self will continue to expand the company’s creative slate.
All three will continue to work closely with Scott Melvin and Duncan East as well as recent hire, India Opie Meres as Head of Development, to build Buzz 16’s already impressive slate which continues to grow and evolve across live programming, podcasts and branded content.
East commented: “With a sustained period of growth across all areas of the business, we have made some changes to the structure of the company in order to keep up with demand and continue to produce high quality content. Tom, Carina and Dan have played significant roles in that growth and we are excited to recognise that contribution as well as see them bring their passion and expertise into their new roles. And to have secured the expertise of Mark in the newly created role of Finance Director demonstrates our commitment to continue this growth and our ambition to become global leaders in the work that we do; collaborating with the world’s top athletes and broadcasters to create the best in live and non-live sports entertainment.”
